Flash mob for the World Music Day

World Music Day is celebrated on June 21 in more than 100 countries all over the world with the aim of popularization of music culture. On that day countless cities become stages for music amateurs and professionals who remind people on the importance of the music in everyday life. Franjo Tuđman Airport joined the celebration of the World Music Day by hosting more than 80 children and young musicians from the SO DO El Sistema organisation gathered in the symphony orchestra. They thrilled numerous passengers with a sudden and unannounced performance of the “Završno kolo” from the Croatian opera “Ero s onogasvijeta”. The orchestra was accompanied by the children’s choir from the Culture and Information Centre Maksimir, and the performance was directed by famous Croatian director Krešimir Dolenčić and his associates Hrvoje Korbar and Marta Tutiš, and conducted by maestro Ante Sladoljev.

In this flash mob 85 orchestra members from two SO DO centres in Zagreb and Istria participated, joined by 20 members of children’s choir from the Culture and Information Centre Maksimir and around 150 parents and family members. They were accompanied by Zagreb Majorettes as well. Director Krešimir Dolenčić joined the project as volunteer, making sure that everything goes smoothly. “It was a great pleasure to join SO DO organisation in this project since I highly respect everything they do and the way they raise our children and youth. Love for the music is in each one of us, and we adults have a duty of showing our children ways to use that love in the best possible way for their personal development and easier going through challenges while growing up. World Music Day is a great opportunity to remind ourselves of everything we get from the music and of its importance in the children’s, but also adult world”, said Krešimir Dolenčić, associate acting professor at the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb and this year’s winner of the annual award Vladimir Nazor for theatre art.

Flash mob was held at the second floor of the new passengers’ terminal of Zagreb Airport in the check in area. After the performance of Završno kolo of one of the most popular Croatian operas “Ero s onoga svijeta”, young musicians treated passengers with a special half-hour concert during which they played several classical, popular and movie compositions.
